Why did I create a one for one playlist combining different eras of Jesse The Tree and Katie Crutchfield aka Waxahatchee? Consider it a sonic introduction to how emotional intelligence is an asset in songwriting. Both Jesse and Katie are highly literary writers with vivid imagery and unique word usage. That muscle under the guide of a creator who can tap into the emotions of everyone in the scene they are painting is powerful. Both are really hitting a peak right now: Waxahatchee with Tiger’s Blood and Jesse The Tree with Not Fade Away both released in 2024. The humor, sadness, and reflection makes each song important. I only allowed myself so many songs from the 2024 projects. I wanted to show how we got here. The shorter songs bring you even closer to the power of the writing, the weight of realization in closing lines. On top of the writing their voices are instruments and boy do they play. Forget genres and you will understand the kinship here and hopefully you’ll love both of them even more.
