Most people aren’t lucky enough to have a moment when all the interested parties surrounding you take notice. Ortiz is that lucky and that good. The legend of G Rap is undisputable. Any major star from raps golden era has admitted that G Rap pushed them to stay as flawless as they could: Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, DMC, etc. This is the same MC that blacked out at the end of the best posse track of all time(The Symphony) and dominated. This song is off G Raps Dead or Alive 2005 mixtape. Two years before Joell Ortiz first album and the aftermath hubbub, followed by the Slaughterhouse hubbub. In 2005 Ortiz wasn’t a name, but G Rap put him on a love song to cocaine and he stepped to the dark thump of the soundbed and bodied his verse. A lot of people at the three minute and twenty eight second mark pulled off their headphones and said “Who the F$%^ is Joell Ortiz” maybe that’s why he named his best mixtape that. Ortiz brought an emotional honesty and beastly delivery to mixtapes and while he was never the second coming of Pun that was never the point. The point is Ortiz will never let you forget Pun; he carries the influence with him and makes you love it all over again.
