NOTES
● EST Gee-Bigger Than Life or Death: EST means Everybody Shine Together
and the Gee is supposed to be short for his real name (George). The
Louisville spitter was shot five times in 2019 and is back with a cover
that shows the surgical scar on his stomach. The come up is so real this
project features production from Southside and features from 42 Dugg,
Future, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Yo Gotti, Pooh Shiesty. This is
a real moment for EST Gee and a chance for him to drive his future and
control the speed.
● Ken Car$on-Project X: The young Atlanta reminds me of Playboi Carti so
it makes sense that his debut album comes out on Opium which is a label
Carti founded in 2019. Car$on is also 808 Mafia connected so this is a
strong team to start from with catchy hooks. Did he stamp this album
with a signature that will differentiate this album from others that
traffic in the same lane?
● Dave-We’re All Alone in This Together: Following 2019’s personal and
operatic Psychodrama, Dave is back! While Dave wants to chart bringing
in big beautiful voices like Snoh Aalegra, James Blake and Wizkid he has
a lot to talk about in every album and his themes are given a lot of
space to grow. This might be a larger scale personal journey than
Psychodrama, will the audience get it?
ACTION ITEMS
- These three albums really seem to articulate the different lanes within
pop music. We should talk about the kinds of rap that inhabit the pop
space at the moment.
