Song Review-1990 by Daryn Alexus
Song Review-1990 by Daryn Alexus by Dan-O R&B as a genre in the current musical environment is a lot like Daryn Alexus. Both seem to bubble over with energy, enthusiasm and ideas. Her new mixtape GREEN extends itself in as many directions as it can with a spread of sonic landscape that includes Go Wild…

From The Inbox-Bona Fide by Kid Sean
From The Inbox-Bona Fide by Kid Sean by Dan-O The distinction between hip hop and underground hip hop is a real stylistic divergence. It’s not really about sales figures. Artists like B.O.B. and Wiz Khalifa came up independently through mixtapes but they were always pop artists. You can listen to teenage Wiz belt out Pittsburgh…

Mixtape Review-The Water(s) by Mick Jenkins
Mixtape Review-The Water(s) by Mick Jenkins by Dan-O It’s just not as simple as the presentation. EP Review-Royalty The Prequel by The Dream
EP Review-Royalty The Prequel by The Dream by Dan-O Amidst all the great little R&B mixtapes that have dropped into the universe this year you won’t hear a lot about Royalty. Not for lack of interesting music, by the way, more for the emotional neediness. This is a project so very off-putting that the hits…

EP review-OTR2SJ by Scotty ATL
EP review-OTR2SJ by Scotty ATL by Dan-O My blood boils when I hear censored music. By the time the 90’s came around I was arguing with my parents for the permission to listen to rap music. If you turned on the television people were driving steamrollers over my favorite rap album. C. Delores Tucker had…

Mixtape Review-Air Time by Mouse On Tha Track
Mixtape Review-Air Time by Mouse On Tha Track by Dan-O Some people can’t help but be fun. It’s in their bones. In my generation we all looked at Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day and snickered. It seemed like he just couldn’t stop making fun bankable pop music no matter what he tried to do.…
